What I Do

January 18, 2008

Okay, okay… Well, I had this HUGE post typed up explaining what I do.  But, it was just too much.  So, here is the condensed version.

Back in 1997, Katie and I looked into some socially responsible investments.  Currently, the investments are our main source of income.   We are not extremely wealthy, but God has always provided for us and we have never gone hungry.

I sold insurance and financial services when I was in Arizona.  Although I am a licensed insurance agent here in Missouri, I am not currently selling insurance.  I am also certified to process CFC/HCFC Refrigerant.

XL-2 Digital Camcorder

I have a very nice Canon XL2 video camera and all the equipment needed to produce feature films.  I also have a Canon GL2 and a Canon 30D. The plan at one time was to travel the country by bus making documentaries of large families.  That plan has been put on the back burner for right now though.  I have shot weddings, talent shows, church events and some other miscellaneous stuff.  I can do broadcast commercials, training videos, weddings, birthdays, video biographies, etc.  You name it.  Have camera, will travel.

We recently purchased property at 37.080529,-91.809579 - it is such a great location for the family camp we are planning to build.  We are going to start building our house on the property soon.  We will have tent camping on the river soon after our house is built and we will be building small cabins shortly after that.  We have also talked about building a lodge that will accommodate larger groups for retreats.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can now rest easy knowing, LOL….

We just built a house and it was such a fun, super fun, experience. i wish you all the best!!! Do you have your house plan yet, or do you have yet to draw it up? We documented our entire house building on video and i am so glad we did that. It made for excellent memories!

I’m happy to read of your interest — and success — with socially responsible investing (SRI)! Many people feel that they have to expect lower returns with such investments. However, history is showing that is not true. Generally, and as you probably know, SRI returns are usually as good, or sometimes even better, than with ‘regular’ investing.

I’ve been following SRI for around forty years, and have a website that covers the latest global news and information related to socially responsible investing and which might be of interest to you and your readers. It’s at http://www.investingforthesoul.com

Good luck with your plans! Best wishes, Ron Robins

Oh, good. We were all worried you just sat at the computer all day eating red and green M&Ms. :)

Jeff, (hello, nice to meet you). I am curious what “socially responsible investment” means. I clicked on the link left by Ron, but didn’t get much clarification. Also, I love that y’all are planning that camp site. I have very fond memories of childhood summers spent camping in the Ozarks as I grew up in the STL suburbs.

I’ve wondered about what you do for a while… my husband has even asked me! I shrugged and said “I dunno, something good, I guess”

My husband is a full-time IT manager for a surgery group, but he is building a business on the side. He built a data center just north of us and runs an off-site backup service that is just starting to get off the ground. If you ever need any data backed-up off-site…

    thanks for sharing-
    enjoy your kids-
    say ‘hi’ to Katie,
